Many of the illnesses Dr. Arey treats are biologically based, and can be treated using a combination of both biological and psychological interventions.
Medications can be an integral part of addressing the biological component of some illnesses, which can then make it easier for the psychological interventions (eg. therapy) to have a positive effect in a patient's life.
While many patients can be helped with therapy alone, medications can be an important adjunct in helping many people deal with their issues and move forward with their lives. Dr. Arey is trained in the latest psychopharmacological interventions, and uses medications conservatively to help patients.
Dr. Arey sees patients both for medication management alone (as a consultant to other therapists who are treating the patient), as well as for combined therapy and medication management. As part of your medication evaluation, Dr. Arey will review with you the indications, side effects, drug interactions, time course and other relevant information of any medication she will prescribe.
